Astoria, New York

‘takethestage’ is an indie rock band from Astoria, New York. The band started in 2012, with brothers, Hans Garcia (18), on guitar and vocals and Shanne Garcia (14) on drums, covering punk songs in the basement of their home. In 2013, the brothers recruited their cousin Juan Calonzo (18), on bass guitar and in early 2018, recruited longtime friend, Brandon Costas (19) on lead guitar. In March 2019, Jordan Cappello (20) joined the group after Brandon’s departure in January.

Their first EP release “Waiting” (December 2015) was four tracks composed and written by Hans. The EP had an 80’s pop vibe, which differed from the band’s original roots as a punk cover band. The band’s most recent release, the “Love” EP (May 2016), is a 5 track EP showcasing their rock sensibilities. These two releases can be found on the band’s bandcamp.

Knowing the full potential of the songs haven’t been met yet, the band went to Threshold Recording Studios in Hell’s Kitchen and worked with ‘The Strokes’ (“Is This It?”) producer James Walsh to record a single, entitled “Sell”, soon to be released, and is the carrier single of their debut album, “Blue.”.

One of the band’s key interests is fundraising. They have participated in events with the ‘Feed Hungry Minds’ organization, benefiting less fortunate children in the Philippines.

In early 2018, the band began working with Richard Fabrizio from Frequency Studios in White Plains, New York to record their debut album, “Blue.”. The 10 track album is set to release on June 22nd, 2018.

Three songs off the album can be found, here.

On July 19th, 2018, the band signed on to MCA Universal Music Group for distribution. After a month of touring, the band has begun work on their 2nd full length album, “Mint.”, set to release late 2019.
