Many artists struggle to establish their musical identity, laboriously trying on different musical styles like a piece of clothing, looking to find what fits. But there are others that emerge fully formed, in full command of their craft, their identity and their music. TheVoice, a powerhouse Independent Hip Hop and Neo Soul Artist fits firmly in the latter category. Her latest collection of studio endeavors, a three track EP entitled World Wide, is a captivating and moving debut that heralds the arrival of a gifted and significant much needed talent, one whose music feels familiar in the best possible way, while striking out on its own territory.
“Hip hop is truth expressed… through the struggle,” TheVoice mused about her artistry. “Whether you express that truth through lyrics, dance, music, graffiti, language, literature, truth being: who you are, where you come from, what you believe, what you stand for, and what you can give back to the struggle.” – TheVoice
Hailing from Denver, TheVoice has previously had parallels drawn between her music and the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, Erykah Badu, Nas and Floetry. Her voice is the most vital element of her artistry, hence her moniker, and her songwriting style which incorporates rap, spoken word, and soulful singing into a beautifully constructed sonic tapestry quite unlike anything else in the music community today. Traversing themes of love, female empowerment, self-respect, and more, TheVoice’s music houses equally as eclectic themes as it does genres and styles.
Adding to her credits, she earned the opportunity to write and perform a nationally aired, Telly Award winning commercial for the Black Starz Channel entitled “The Black Experience” wherein she used her poetry skills to take viewers through the journey and plight of black Americans.
The registered ASCAP member has performed in many venues and festivals such as: Apex Sports Lounge, Passion4Arts Showcase, The Soiled Dove Underground, Cervantes, Herman’s Hideaway, Jazz@Jacks, The Shout Out, The Gypsy House, The Walnut Room, The Mercury Café, Root 40 Music Fest, Make Music Denver, Independent Records Music Day #5 to name a few.
TheVoice is also a mentor for budding artists in her local community, teaching hip hop and creative expression to the youth. As an emcee, songwriter, vocalist, music producer and record producer, TheVoice has defined not only what it means to be a dynamic artist, but what it means to be an empowering, uplifting woman in the industry.
